At Christmas, or at any other time of year, there are numerous reasons to buy vintage. Here are The Vintage Wren's top 5 reasons to buy vintage...
1. Vintage is unique
We're not talking mass market here. While vintage finds are often a great reminder of past memories - "My grandma used to have those!", "These remind me of being little!" - they can provide a great unique gift, with items that you simply don't see everyday.
2. British Quality
95% of the items we sell are British made. From the days when china came from England and not China, when furniture was crafted in the UK, and classic brands were created. The adage "They don't make them like they used to" rings true with many vintage goods. It is very satisfying to find a great old piece that has already stood the test of time and yet still has more years to go.
3. Vintage has a positive environmental impact
Buying vintage, to me, is the most glamorous form of recycling! Think of the carbon footprint of all those products being shipped from the other side of the world. Buy local if you can. By buying vintage you are reusing previously loved items and giving them a new lease of life in modern times.
4. Save yourself some money
Antique, vintage and retro items are a source of inspiration for many things on the high street. Just think of the popularity of Cath Kidston vintage style prints and how Ercol is still going strong. Yet you can purchase many original items at just a fraction of the price because they are "second hand". Full dining suites for £50, beautifully made wardrobes for £40, coffee tables for a £20 - that's even cheaper than Ikea!! And remember if you can't find what you're looking for on the website, get in contact as I'm happy to go treasure hunting on your behalf.
5. Vintage has history
The main reason I love vintage! As a history graduate I love finding the stories behind the items I buy. Whether it's dating a tea service or a typewriter, or finding a hidden inscription in a book, each piece has a story to tell.
